Christmas Charity Game a huge success

Our annual charity Christmas game, played for the Copper Still Cup, took place on Sunday, December 30th. This year it was the under 30s against the over 30s.

The game started at a frenetic pace with lots of early tough exchanges and neither team looking to give away an inch. But as the half went on the overs wilted slightly and it was the unders who went into a commanding lead thanks to some well taken goals. The half time whistle couldn't come quick enough for the overs. But thanks to one of Declans famous inspirational half time speeches the overs certainly came out a rejuvenated team in the 2nd half.

The overs were now rampant with chance after chance coming their way. If only some lads had their goal scoring boots on, the overs could have snatched a victory. But the scoreboard doesn't lie and I think it showed a draw at the end or maybe there was a few numbers the wrong way around. But anyway the unders were winners on this occasion but there's always next year. The overs who are starting training in October will be looking to coax a few former stars back into action.

After everyone got their breath back It was left for Derek Hunt of The Copper Still to hand over the cup to the winning captain Anthony Mulligan.

Thanks to our 2 managers Declan Bohan and Jackie Conboy, our referee Kevin Mallon and to the many helpers in the club house afterwards. Many thanks to Lough Rynn for providing the soup, and to The Copper Still and many others for the sandwiches. Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the collection. There was almost €1000 raised on the day with the proceeds going to Leitrim Lions and Ballinamore Patient Comfort Fund. And finally our thanks to Trevor Howard for all of his hard work in organising the game. Well done Trevor.
