Our deepest sympathies are extended to Ann Marie and all of the Bohan family (Cloontumpher) on the sad passing of Ann Marie’s husband Paddy Seymour in Galway last week. Ar dheis Dé go raibh sé.
The past week marked the 25th anniversary of Bornacoola's first and only ever victory in the All-Ireland Finals of Scór na n-Óg. On that memorable day in Athlone, the Tráth na gCeist team of Niall McGowan, Louise and Cyril Staunton won the All-Ireland title by finishing ahead of the three other provincial winners from Wicklow, Clare and Tyrone. What was even more memorable was that The Bors scored full marks on the day. Nine years later, Louise Staunton joined Liam Rabbitte and Aidan Dockery in winning the All-Ireland title in Scór Sinsear. Unbelievably, The Bors again scored full marks on that day in Killarney. No other team has ever got full marks in the 55-year history of All-Ireland Scór Sinsear Finals. A notable achievement for the club and particularly for Louise! She is the only person in Ireland ever to have won medals in the two age groups on full marks. Because of the recent changes made to the structure of the Tráth na gCeist. competition, it is extremely doubtful if any team will ever finish on full marks in an All-Ireland Final.
Our U15s got the season off on a bright note with a great win over Mac Cumhaills on Saturday last in the first round of the league on a 3-8 to 1-8 scoreline. Well doe to all involved.
