Green Club Initiative

We have joined up to the GAAs Green Clubs initiative this year. Green clubs is a programme run by Croke Park where clubs can join to make a positive impact on the environment. The programme has five thematic areas where we as a club can work to have a positive impact on the environment and become more sustainable. The five thematic areas are Energy, Biodiversity, Waste, Water and Transport. We now have a committee in place to improve our sustainability - if you are interested in joining contact Alan Bohan on 087 6706410 or Brian Mallon on 0872520997.

To get the club started in Green clubs we need to complete two actions from two of the thematic areas. We have chosen Biodiversity and Waste as our initial areas to commence making improvements.

For Biodiversity we are no longer mowing the hill at the back of the lower goal during the summer months to encourage the growth of wild flowers. We will also plant a number of pollinator trees at the back of the hill including Irish Crab Apple to increase food for bees.

Our second actions are in the waste thematic area. We will move completely to single use drink bottles for 2024 and posters showing the change will be displayed in the meeting room. In addition we will only have reusable delve and cutlery in our clubhouse kitchen for 2024.

Again if you are interested in getting involved just contact Alan Bohan on 087 6706410 or Brian Mallon on 0872520997.
