A disappointing end to our league campaign on Friday evening last in Cloone, as Aughnasheelin proved too strong for Bornacoola after extra time in a rip roaring game, the men in green triumphing on a scoreline of 7-15 to 2-22. Aughnasheelin’s ability to find the back of the net – both in normal and extra time – proved crucial and despite the Bors coming back from the dead on more than one occasion, Aughnasheelin were ultimately deserving winners. Highlights for the Bors were well taken goals from Cian Mallon and Ronan Mulligan as well as an excellent display of point taking from the accurate Conor Reynolds. Despite the defeat, the main objective for the league was achieved as promotion was secured and the Bors will operate in Division 2 next year. All thoughts now turn to the Championship which gets underway on the weekend of August 8th/9th. Team on duty on Friday was Danny Farrell, John Mc Garry, Kevin Mulligan, David Mulligan, Allan Croghan, Keelan Lyons, Sean O Riordan, Damian Moran, Liam Jones, Sean Muldowney, Shane Mallon, Anthony Mulligan, Ronan Mulligan, Cian Mallon and Conor Reynolds. Subs used were Sean Mc Keon, Robert O Beirne, Kian Mc Cormack and Jake Shiels
It was with regret that we learned of the sad passing of Peter (Petie) Hanley last week. Petie was a very proud member of the club over many years and a consummate volunteer, always willing to do the unglamourous jobs and help out in whatever manner was required. A quiet man, he will be sadly missed by us all and our thoughts and prayers this week were with his wife Ann, son Ray (a former senior footballer of some note with Bornacoola), daughter Marie and brother Sean T and all those who mourned his passing. Ar dheis lámh Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
This Saturday, 1st August, members of Bornacoola GAA will be putting the legs to the test as they take on our Pedal for the Pitch fundraiser! We'll be cycling on stationary bikes outside McGuire's Filling Station and Hunt's Newsagents from opening until closing time, all in aid of raising funds for the continued development of our club. Sponsorship cards are currently in circulation or you can make a donation on the day if you’re passing. As ever, every contribution, big or small, is hugely appreciated.
Our July draw will take place in the Copper Still on this Sunday night, August 2nd. As ever, a minimum jackpot of €2000 is guaranteed and tickets are available from McGuires in Rooskey, Hunts Supermarket, the Copper Still or online at https://member.clubspot.app/club/bornacoola-gaa-lgfa/fundraisers.
